The Brief

A channel created as a place where Veolia employees can go to interact, learn and innovate with colleagues and peers. It’s to be a point of ideas, information, human stories, and brain-stretching challenges.Content was to be produced to successfully communicate the channel UK wide Identifying and executing an effective content calendar was required to ensure the growth and continued usage of the programme after launch. Branding and naming the channel, identifying key milestones, touch points and areas of interaction was a key part of the brief.

The Challenge

Engagement was vital – Veolia’s KPI’s dictated that they required the ‘majority’ of their UK staff to sign up. Between our strategy and creative team we set out to examine the methods for delivery of content, platforms available and objectives that would enable the channel to be a success. With our team having worked on internal communication channels in previous years for the Royal Navy through to Adidas we presented our experience and understanding of what resonates versus what the business challenges were for a brand such as Veolia. At the heart of the project was the need to re-invigorate. This platform couldn’t be just about the coffee machine and the toilets being blocked! It had to kick start imagination. We needed a name to symbolise that ambition and give our content the cut-through it needed. We decided on SPARK, because the Spark was, in reality, the vital ingredient that had been lost.

The Outcome

In collaboration with the heads of the main ‘pillar’ departments (People, Tech and Capabilities), we devised a content plan that would launch a series of challenges… each targeted to pique the interest of the personnel while drawing on the heritage and achievements of the organisation. The channel was so successful after 6 months that it was rolled our Internationally into Europe and Japan The channel was designed to be inclusive and engage every member of staff, from R&D, through to finance, support and logistics. Veolia Nuclear’s success is built on teamwork at times of huge crisis, so the creative had to be egalitarian and not just about the ‘ideas’ people in the backrooms.We rolled out a 12-month content calendar which included what was to be produced by our in-house team and what could be done by the wider Veolia team through UGC. With themes such as “Success Stories”, short-form content that was around a successful or interesting project undertaken by Veolia as well as “Super Veolians”, a new award programme recognising the best of the best of the business through to “The Impossible Challenge” which brought teams internally together to undertake tasks and challenges throughout the year.We launched on the 6th May 2022 the Super Veolian Staff Awards. Within 3 days of launching the 27 peer to peer nominations were received, meaning almost 20% of the business had nominated someone.
